A Furry Dilemma

We all love a luxurious and warm fur coat for the cold winter months, however, if it is a real fur, you might want to rethink where you’re buying your furs from to ensure the animals were kept in humane conditions and slaughtered in the least painful way possible. Personally I think all animals deserve to be treated with care and should not be killed for our benefits but I understand that fur is a necessity in bitterly cold countries like Russia. Therefore if these animals are going to be killed, it should be done in a humane way. Relating to the retail level of the fur industry, according to Women’s Wear Daily, recently Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor settled a lawsuit with the Humane Society. Animals rights activists like PETA and the Humane Society are constantly on the “tail” (animal pun intended lol!) of designers that openly use fur and leather in their designs. Saks Fifth and Lord & Taylor were accused of falsely labeling and falsely advertising their furs thus violating the Fur Products Labeling Act. They had falsely labeled real fur as “faux fur” and falsely labeled fur from raccoon dogs as “raccoon”. Lastly, they failed to include information about the garments place of origin and other legally required information.
